Here’s a follow-up to last week’s post on congressional funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and KET. A number of you have been kind enough to call and email your questions and concerns; I was even stopped on my way into the post office this morning by a loyal KET viewer who wanted to know the latest news from Washington.
The House of Representatives continues to work on the resolution to fund the federal government when the current resolution expires on March 4th. As a part of that discussion, the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee, chaired by Kentucky 5th District Representative Hal Rogers, is recommending the elimination of federal funding for public broadcasting in the budget cycle which would begin in 2013.
Kentucky Congressmen Rep. John Yarmuth of the 3rd district and 6th district Rep. Ben Chandler have signed a letter in support of federal funding for public broadcasting.
President Obama included funding for the CPB in his proposed 2012 budget which was sent to Congress Monday.
We’ve heard from hundreds of you who support PBS and KET and we appreciate it.
In other news, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul was interviewed Tuesday night on the PBS Newshour by Gwen Ifill.

My family and I are against any elimination of federal funding for PBS and KET. I have sent my views to my representative in Indiana and I would like to thank Mr. Yarmuth and Mr. Chandler for their support of federal funding for public broadcasting. We watch KET many hours each week; it is so very educational, entertaining and family oriented. For those of us who cannot afford anything other than basic cable or an antennae, KET is truly a Godsend.
