Walking by a bank of TV monitors in the KET master control area at noon today, I glanced over at the Charlie Rose Show to find Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner as Rose’s guest. Rose, who recently joined CBS as co-host of the network’s morning news program, has kept his PBS job too. KET broadcasts his show at 11/10 p.m. CT and the following day at noon/11 CT on KET2.
Returning to my office with a scrumptious frozen delicacy for lunch, I took another look at the TV in my office only to discover that Geithner had morphed into Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer! Wow, do I need a new pair of glasses or what?!

Mayor Fischer, along with a number of other big-city mayors, including Chicago’s Rahm Emanuel, were guests on the Rose show. They were in New York to receive a $24 million initiative from Bloomberg Philanthropies (yes, that Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York). These Innovative Delivery Team grants are meant to help mayors effectively design and implement solutions to pressing city challenges.
Fischer explained that his team will use the money to generate new job-growth strategies. He also mentioned that Louisville had partnered with Lexington to develop a new regional export strategy along I-64 which links the two cities. Mayor Fischer and Lexington Mayor Jim Gray were guests on One to One this year to talk about that collaboration.
Mayor Fischer did a great job on the program. He added that his “goal as mayor is to create an entrepreneurial culture in Louisville that focuses on innovation and breakthrough ideas.”
I’m glad I stayed in for lunch today. Mayor Fischer and his statements on national television more than made up for the frozen dinner I endured.
And don’t you agree he looks a little like Tim Geithner?
