Often, on One to One, I’m taping programs that have a long shelf life; people are available, schedules are arranged, politicians are home during an August recess from their duties in Washington. I have to ask them to come to our KET studios when they can work us into their schedules.
That all happened this week. Senator Rand Paul, 6th District Congressman Ben Chandler, and Chandler’s opponent in the November election, Andy Barr, all came by to tape a program this week. Their conversations with me won’t be on the air until September.
Of course, their availability coincided with the announcement that Paul Ryan has been chosen by Mitt Romney as his running mate. That is big news: immediate, timely, and interesting.
I wanted to get the reaction of Paul, Chandler, and Barr. Here’s what they had to say.

Andy Barr stated that Paul Ryan wants to tell the American people the truth as if Paul is the only person on this earth capable of doing that. But because the truth cannot be found in mainstream media, I would stand with him on cutting funds for that program. America needs “tough love” right now. Cut whatever programs need to be cut and if there are any good, decent, righteous people left in this world, we can get through the rough times ahead. That’s what we need to be telling the American people. It would be a disgrace to leave a collasped economy for our babies. I respect my elders but let’s face it, they have lived a good life and it’s time for some sacrafices to made for the generations to come. They are our future leaders and innovators. But I have faith that no matter how we leave this country, there will be a select few that will have the courage and knowledge to rebuild what we destroyed. Each and every one of us is responsible for this mess, even me.
