The long and arduous process of writing a new two-year state budget has started in Frankfort. Members of the House and Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committees are reviewing Gov. Steve Beshear’s suggested budget, line by line.
It will be weeks before we know the outcome.
One man who’s closely watching the process is Kentucky Youth Advocates Executive Director Terry Brooks. He is so pleased with the governor’s budget proposal that Brooks pronounced Beshear “the children’s governor” because of his plan to restore funding to programs supporting youth and families, and because of the overall values Beshear exemplifies regarding young people in the Commonwealth. Brooks said the agenda laid out by the governor is as “smart as it is bold.”
Brooks will be my guest on the next One to One. We’ll talk about the budget and the needs of the state’s children and families. The show airs Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on KET2.
