KET Special Tonight With David Walker

Monday, February 4th, 2013

We found out late last week that Congress sent President Obama legislation raising the debt ceiling. That delays, at least until later this year, a government default. It also gives Congress and the president some time before they go back to the negotiating table on the next tax-and-spend clash which is surely to occur.

This is the very subject a distinguished American brought to a University of Kentucky audience just a few days ago.

Former United States Comptroller General (sort-of the chief federal auditor) David Walker was in town to visit with students at the Martin School for Public Policy and Administration and make an appearance at the Singletary Center.

Our KET cameras were there. You’ll see Walker in a very understandable speech about the debt and deficit crisis facing this country, a panel discussion with two Kentuckians and a Q & A with audience members tonight at 9/8 Central on KET, immediately following “Kentucky Tonight.”

Here are a few things Walker had to say to the audience at UK:

Remember to watch KET tonight for “Kentucky Tonight” at 8/7 Central for a discussion on industrial hemp, followed by David Walker and The Fiscal Cliff at 9/8 Central.

David Walker Knows Fiscal Responsibility

Friday, January 25th, 2013

David Walker came to Kentucky this week to tell his story of how America is drowning in debt. Walker says that faced with key deficits in budget, savings, trade, and leadership; increased foreign competition and ballooning financial obligations, the federal government is critically overextended.

Walker served for 10 years as Comptroller General of the United States, the public auditor for the country, serving three presidents. Today he is the Founder and CEO of The Comeback America Initiative and has traveled to 50 states with his message promoting fiscal responsibility.

My ‘One to One’ conversation with Walker touched on a number of topics. He is very intentional on what needs to be done and how quickly President Obama and Congress should act to get the fiscal crisis under control.

With all of the rancor and discord in Washington, I wanted to get Walker’s evaluation of the mood in Congress and how Democrats and Republicans, who are far apart on a number of fiscal issues, could ever reach accord on these issues. Here’s his take on how Congress can move forward.

Walker’s appearance on ‘One to One’ will air this Sunday at 1 pm ET on KET and Tuesday at 7:30 pm ET on KET 2.

On Monday, Feb. 4th at 9 pm ET, KET will present a special program on the fiscal challenges facing America. We taped the program at the University of Kentucky. It was sponsored by the U.K. James W. Martin School of Public Policy and Administration and the Kentucky Business Roundtable. Besides Walker, participants included Charlie Owen, A Louisville businessman and chair of the Kentucky Business Roundtable and Brad Cowgill of the Martin School’s Visitors Board. There were also questions from the audience.
