Social Studies Resources from KET

KET has wonderful resources for the Social Studies classroom!  Through KET Encyclomedia, Kentucky teachers can search for high quality media in both Discovery Education and PBS LearningMedia. Each repository has thousands of resources for classroom use. Here are some examples from both of these repositories:

If you are a Kentucky public school teacher and do not already have a username and password for Discovery Education, you will need to contact your KET Education Consultant or your School Media Specialist for assistance.

Standalone Resources:

These wonderful resources are not in the repositories listed above:

KET’s weekly 15-minute current events television program for upper elementary/middle school students. The program consists of news segments, a current events quiz, “Letters to News Quiz,” and periodic “News Kids” features which may include reports submitted by students.
A multimedia project that immerses players in U.S. history content through free interactive games. Currently there are three games that address the Boston Massacre, the Underground Railroad and Western Expansion. These engaging interactive games include primary sources and activities for classroom use.

A State Divided

Seventy-five images related to the Civil War in Kentucky, ranging from medals and photographs to portraits and weapons. The goal is provide images of primary source artworks, artifacts, photographs, and documents that can be used to teach social studies and arts and humanities.

Lincoln for the Classroom

Resources include 31 short video segments from KET productions, Lincoln and His Times timeline and the Abe Across Kentucky quiz.

A music world tour plus videos and activities to explore instruments, the element of music, songwriting, and more.

World of Dance and Music

An interactive social studies/arts resource showcasing music and dance from many cultures.
