Ken Burns’s Baseball returns to KET

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

KET is encoring three episodes of Ken Burns’s landmark 1994 series, Baseball, Wednesdays, beginning June 30, at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET.

Join Burns for classic baseball stories from the Great Depression through the 1950s, from Joe DiMaggio (pictured) and Satchel Paige to Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, and Don Larsen.

These three episodes air in anticipation of the September 2010 premiere of Burns and co-director Lynn Novick’s The Tenth Inning, a new two-part documentary series that takes the Baseball series from the 1990s to the present and explores the sport’s new Golden Age — an era of unprecedented home-run totals, popularity, and prosperity — as well as some of baseball’s darkest hours.

The Literacy Leadership Awards recognize extraordinary national contributions to improving literacy. The NCL cited KET’s Workplace Essential Skills series, which helps job seekers find and retain employment, and GED Connection, which helps students prepare for the GED exam.

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Kentucky/Southern Indiana Chapter presented KET with their Media Partner of the Year award for providing viewers with in-depth information about the disease and participating in community events.

Also, One to One and Kentucky Tonight host Bill Goodman received the Department of Public Advocacy’s 2010 Anthony Lewis Media Award, which recognizes a member of the media who informs the public on the role public defenders play in providing counsel.
