Next Education Matters features innovative classroom technology strategies

The next Education Matters, “Innovations In Student-Directed Learning,” explores how Kentucky schools are using innovative strategies to put technology into the hands of students, give students more control over their education, and encourage teachers to become learners themselves.
The program, hosted by Bill Goodman, airs Monday, Feb. 25 at 9/8 pm on KET.
The program visits Eminence Independent Schools in Henry County, where an ambitious district-wide program is underway to “reinvent” education and empower students to take charge. Also featured are Danville High School and Bate Middle School in Boyle County, where students are engaged in project-based learning with real-world applications and choices.

Listened to the program tonight – impressed! Of course it’s 2013, past time to begin re-rigging our education systems, but at least they’re beginning
. And I think the most pleasant thing about the program was the excitement in the voices of your panelists.. We as a society have worried about our students and what they are learning in school.. but we don’t worry about the disappointments of our teachers who have learned that they must work with a provided curriculum and never deviate.. in spite of the fact that it is that very ‘structure’ that turns off both students and teachers. Long time coming and I sincerely hope that these new efforts succeed and spread across the country
