KET recognized by ConnectKentucky with Government Leadership in Technology Award

Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013

nasaConnectKentucky recently honored the Commonwealth’s technology leaders at its 2013 Tech Day at Northern Kentucky University. KET, in partnership with Eastern Kentucky University, was awarded the Government Leadership in Technology Award for its role in a live broadcast from the NASA International Space Station.

In January of this year, NASA, EKU and KET provided the entire state with a unique event: a live television and online broadcast from the International Space Station that featured astronaut Dr. Tom Marshburn and approximately 160 middle school students at EKU’s Hummel Planetarium. The centerpiece of the day was a live question-and-answer session with 20 students and Dr. Marshburn, which was delivered live across the state in high definition on KET and streamed live on the web using broadband technologies provided through the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Network.

“Our congratulations go to the many individuals at KET who worked hard to make this special event possible, and our gratitude goes out to our partners at EKU,” says Shae Hopkins, KET executive director and CEO.

KET also won the 2012 Government Leadership in Technology award from ConnectKentucky for its virtual physics lab.
