Tonight Gov. Steve Beshear, other state officials and experts discuss Kentucky storm damage and recovery
Tuesday, March 6, 2012
So many communities and families were devastated by last week’s storms, and as the Commonwealth’s only statewide network, KET serves all Kentuckians in good times and in bad. Tonight we bring you Storm Recovery: Special Report at 7/6 pm CT on KET.
During this discussion, Gov. Steve Beshear, Sen. Tom Jensen (R-London), Rep. Adam Koenig (R-Erlanger), Kentucky Senate Majority Floor Leader Robert Stivers, two regional emergency response officials, and a school psychologist will be among those discussing the statewide damage from last week’s severe weather, current aid and recovery efforts, and more.
Studio guests include: Brigadier General John Heltzel, director of Kentucky’s Division of Emergency Management; Libby Turner, Region IV Federal Coordinating Officer for FEMA; and Dan Florell, Ph.D., assistant professor in the School Psychology Program at Eastern Kentucky University.
Beshear, Jensen, Koenig and Stivers will join the discussion from Frankfort.
In addition, today KET will launch an online storm recovery educational toolkit, a resource for parents and educators trying to help children cope with last week’s disaster.
Resources will include, among other items: how to help children interpret what they see and hear in the media; how to discuss this type of situation in terms children can understand; information on how to prepare for a natural disaster; and episodes of popular PBS children’s programs, such as Sesame Street, that deal specifically with recovering from a natural disaster.
