Funding for GED program

KET receives $1 million for GED program

Friday, Dec. 11, 2009

GEDGov. Steve Beshear awarded $1 million to KET to begin planning an update of its statewide GED preparation program. The funds were presented to KET Executive Director Malcolm Wall (left) and Incoming Executive Director Shae Hopkins (right) by Education Cabinet Secretary Helen Mountjoy (center).

KET’s GED program prepares students for the test and also provides professional development for adult educators who prepare students to take the GED tests. The programs are being created in response to new, more rigorous GED tests that will be launched in the coming years.

Allocated from the Workforce Investment Act statewide reserve –– federal dollars from the U.S. Department of Labor –– the money will enable KET to prepare for the test changes and enroll more GED and basic skills learners.

Students use KET’s GED series on television, at home with workbooks, videos, and online lessons, and personal support is available by phone and mail.
