Kentucky Life presents new Christmas special

Friday, Dec. 17, 2010

The next edition of Kentucky Life gets in the spirit of the season with caroling at Mammoth Cave, a nativity display in Maysville, KaLightoscope at the Galt House in Louisville, and more. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Dec. 18 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET; Sunday, Dec. 19 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET; and Sunday, Dec. 19 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.

First, park visitors participate in the 31st annual Cave Sing at Mammoth Cave National Park, reenacting a cave celebration that began in the 1880s, with carols sung underground by lantern light.

Then, “Our Town” visits the seasonally appropriate town of Berry in Harrison County.

Next, the nativity display at Maysville’s Trinity Lutheran Church showcases a collection of creches of all sizes and styles from around the world, including a full-size restored display of the Holy Family that appeared in downtown Maysville in the 1950s and ’60s.

Finally, the program takes in KaLightoscope Christmas at the Galt House in downtown Louisville, which features towering holiday sculptures made of sheer painted fabric inspired by ancient Chinese art and enhanced by light and color.
