KET is competing in this year’s Knight News Challenge and wants your feedback

KET logo_mdKET is competing in this year’s Knight News Challenge, which focuses on open government. The Knight News Challenge states their mission as working to accelerate media innovation by funding breakthrough ideas in news and information.

KET seeks to develop an open digital platform and apps that provide engaged citizens, advocates, legislators, businesses, journalists and others immediate and full access to Kentucky legislative proceedings. The mobile and desktop apps will allow you to easily search, watch, read and share transcripts and live and archived video of legislative coverage and policy debates. Social media, SMS text and email alerts on topics, people, legislation and more will allow for deeper engagement.

KET encourages you to go to the Knight News Challenge webpage now through March 29 to ask questions and post comments about how our idea would support open government in the Commonwealth.

We believe this innovative resource is necessary in our digital democracy. For example, the apps, which will be fully accessible on mobile devices and computers, will allow you to easily follow a bill through the legislative process. Individuals can also search for specific bills, legislators, meetings, issues and more, creating a tailored service to meets your needs and interests. Lesson plans using live data and legislative coverage also would be developed for educators to use in classrooms.

The winning Knight News Challenge ideas can earn up to $1 million. More information about the challenge can be found at
