KET invites all kindergarten through 5th grade children in the KET viewing area to submit their original illustrated stories to the 2014 KET Young Writers Contest.

For the first time, those in grades 3-5 can also choose to enter our NEW short story contest. Short stories must be between 400-600 words and do not require illustration.

In the Illustrated Story category, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be selected from each grade level. The Short Story category will have 1 winner chosen from all the short story entries. All winners will receive prizes and 1st place stories will be published on KET’s website.

The 2014 contest ends April 15. Read the rules, fill out the entry form, and get started writing/illustrating those stories! Complete rules and the contest entry form are available at KET.org/writerscontest.

Young Writers Contest | KET imageKET is now accepting submissions for the 2013 KET Young Writers contest, a statewide competition designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning. The effort encourages Kentucky’s students in kindergarten through fifth grade to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original work.

KET will select winners at each grade level and award prizes. The first-place stories in each grade level will be published online. The 2013 contest continues through April 13.

To enter, kids must submit an original story with at least four original and colorful illustrations. Children who cannot write may dictate their story to a helpful grownup. The length of the stories varies by grade level. Complete rules and the contest entry form are available at ket.org/writerscontest.
