Empowering super teachers
Tuesday, July 9, 2013
It’s summertime. School is out and many kids will be cooling off with a trip to the movies to see their favorite superheroes’ latest adventures.
Little do they know, Kentucky’s real-life superheroes – our teachers – are spending time this summer sharpening their skills to become even more effective in their classrooms. KET is equipping teachers with engaging, standards-based multimedia and professional development to foster a dynamic digital classroom.
This week, on July 9 and 10, hundreds of teachers will attend KET’s annual Multimedia Professional Development conference at our Network Center in Lexington, home to our AT&T Media Lab and digital HD production facilities. KET staff and leading educators will provide teachers hands-on training in the effective use of video production, apps, iPads, social media for education, and more.
And all year long, throughout the Commonweath, KET serves all of Kentucky’s school districts with professional development. Our six education consultants travel to schools, delivering expert training for teachers in the use of digital technology and educational resources, as well as in media literacy. Last year, KET provided in-person training to more than 9,000 teachers and pre-service teachers.
Kentucky’s teachers, our true “Wonder Women” and “Supermen,” make a heroic difference for our children and our state’s future. They inspire students to question and analyze, and teach communication and collaboration skills, synthesis, and creativity. These tools are at the core of KET’s professional development services, and help teachers to equip Kentucky’s students as successful citizens in a rapidly changing world.
